How do we upcycle, and remain sustainable?

The mission of The Cozy Pirate is to create sustainable art and leave the world better than we found it. When we receive items that are too damaged to repair, have stains, or have other issues, we make a different call. The coat in the photos above has many dark stains. Instead of tossing it in the trash, it was painted and given new life. Some items might inspire a new paint job, but others might be great for future projects. Embroidered designs make great patches; a shirt with a lot of holes might make a great book cover.

But that just covers fabric items. We take in toys, electronics, and a variety of other items that can’t traditionally be used for cool clothing. So how do we deal with those?

Anything that can be cleaned, repaired, and made complete will be.

We have experience in toy and electronics repair and customization, and a lot of items require very simple repairs. If we can figure it out, we’ll do it! And these services are not currently restricted to just items donated to us. Have a toy, decor piece, small electronic, or something you love that needs repair? Contact us.

Eventually, everything needs to move on, though. When an item finally reaches the point where it is not moving off of our shelves, and we decide to remove it, every effort will be made to recycle it or provide a wider audience for it with another thrift store in St. Johns.
